Sierra Club Sept. 7: How to Avoid the Third Gas-Powered Plant in Asheville

7 Sep 2016

Three members of the Energy Innovation Task Force – Brownie Newman, Buncombe County Commission; Julie Mayfield, Asheville City Council; and Jason Walls, Duke Energy -- will provide an update on the task force’s developing plan to move WNC to cleaner energy which, in turn, would avoid construction of the third gas “peaking” unit at the Asheville plant in 2023.

Amber Weaver of the City of Asheville’s Office of Sustainability will also be on hand to discuss projects that created the foundation and culture of the City’s work today. The City has targeted an 80 percent reduction by 2050 in the use of carbon fuels. Weaver also will highlight future city projects as well as opportunities for citizens to take action within their own environments.

Date: Wednesday, September 7
Time: 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Location: Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Asheville, 1 Edwin Place, Asheville (Charlotte Street and Edwin Place).
