"Good Without God - Humanism in Western North Carolina

15 Nov 2015

Good Without God - Humanism in Western North Carolina" will be presented by panelists from the Ethical Humanist Society of Asheville and WNC Humanists at the Sunday, November 15th meeting of the Ethical Humanist Society of Asheville, 2:00-3:30 PM, at The Friends Meeting House, 227 Edgewood Road, Asheville, NC.

Humanism is a progressive philosophy of life which affirms the ability and responsibility to lead ethical lives that aspire to the greater good of humanity. Both organizations are non-theist and believe in Good; how they are alike and different will be explored. The history and emphasis of the Ethical Culture movement, American Ethical Union, the American Humanist Association, and local organizations based in Asheville will be provided. Current programs, social action and advocacy work, and community partnerships will be described. Goals and new areas of collaboration will be explored.

The Ethical Humanist Society of Asheville is a humanist, non-theist alternative to traditional religion. Meeting topics are educational, philosophical and of current interest. It is affiliated with the American Ethical Union, and the American Humanist Association, both of which are members of the International Humanist and Ethical Union. Members are inspired by the ideal that the supreme aim of human life is working to create a more humane society. Their commitment is to the worth and dignity of the individual and to treating each human being so as to bring out the best in him or her.
