NC Wildlife Com./NRC Force Unwanted Toxic Shooting Range on Pristine Public Land

18 Feb 2015

Shooting Range Public Meeting Wednesday, February 18th
6:30 - 8:30, held at Municipal Auditorium located at 401 S. College Street, Morganton, NC.

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is continuing its planning to locate a shooting range within a .2 miles of a mile to Lake James and all of its recreational uses, .5 miles to private property and 1.2 miles to the Linville Gorge Wilderness.

Your support is needed to ensure the NCWRC knows that this is a bad decision. Please consider coming to the meeting and/or sharing this link to the Citizens Opposed to the Linville Shooting Range Petition: http://chn.ge/1qw4SMa and asking your friends and family to sign the petition.

The NRA is behind this and donating $25K per shooting range. The lead from amunition/bullets is not regulated by the EPA despite shooting ranges becoming at times so toxic within 2 years that they should qualify as Superfund sites. The NC Wildlife Commission and USFS betrays public trust in allowing this dangerous toxic shooting range with no funds provided to clean up toxic lead contamination. Lead cleanup is very expensive and very difficult especially when it contaminates a major water source such as Lake James. Taxpayers should not be expected to fund this dangerous activity for the gun lobby. Please just say no to toxic and dangerous shooting ranges.
