Nourishing Community: Food (IN)Security

24 Jan 2015

The French Broad Food Co-op is sponsoring a presentation by Lindsay Majer, Social Enterprise and Food Program manager for the Green Opportunities organization, who will speak about food access issues in Asheville and how under-nourishment affects the lives of many people in the city and surrounding area.

The program will be held on Saturday, January 24 at 3:00 pm at 76 Biltmore Avenue (formerly the Build It Naturally building, next door to the FBFC).

In 2012 the Food Research and Action Council, a national advocacy group, ranked the Asheville-Buncombe Metropolitan Area as the ninth highest metropolitan area in the country in food hardship suffering. In previous surveys, in 2011 and 2010, our area was rated third and seventh in food hardship nationally.

How could this come to happen in one of the major food destinations in the Southeast? And how are we going to respond to what amounts to a crisis in nutrition availability in the Asheville-Buncombe area?

Come find out more on January 24. For more information, call Clare Schwartz, FBFC Outreach Coordinator, at (828) 255-7650.
