Nourishing Community: Food (IN)Security

24 Jan 2015

"Nourishing Community: Food (IN)Security" is the first in the French Broad Food Co-op's Speaker Series.

On Saturday, January 24 at 3:00 pm Lindsay Majer of the Green Opportunities organization will discuss the problem of food accessibility in Asheville. The event, sponsored by the FBFC, will be held at 76 Biltmore Avenue, next door to the Co-op.

Despite Asheville's reputation as a "foodtopia," there are many city residents who lack consistent access to healthy nourishment. Learn about the barriers to access and the causes of food gaps in our city. Hear about local initiatives that are underway to bring fresh, affordable food to our whole community.

Green Opportunities is a non-profit community economic development corporation that provides training and support to low-income individuals who face barriers to employment. Lindsay works to build food-related businesses that create jobs and increase access to fresh food in "food desert" areas in Asheville.
