Global Impact Forum: An Evening with Peter Baker

17 Nov 2014

Peter Baker, chief White House correspondent for The New York Times and best-selling author, will be the featured guest of Warren Wilson College’s Global Impact Forum on Nov. 17.

The event, free and open to the public, will begin at 7 p.m. at The Center for Craft, Creativity & Design, 67 Broadway in downtown Asheville. The Himan Group, Merrill Lynch Wealth Management of Asheville, is sponsoring the event.

Baker will join Warren Wilson College President Steven L. Solnick in a conversation about American politics in the wake of the midterm elections; international politics (especially the new tensions with Russia and the war in Ukraine); the legacy of the Bush-Cheney administration; and the future of journalism in the digital age.

Solnick is a former associate professor of political science at Columbia University, where he also was coordinator for Russian studies at the Harriman Institute. He was Ford Foundation representative in Moscow and then in New Delhi before becoming Warren Wilson College president in 2012.

Before joining The Times in 2008, Peter Baker was a reporter for 20 years at The Washington Post, where he covered the White House during the presidencies of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. Between stints at the White House, Baker and his wife, Susan Glasser, spent four years as Moscow bureau chiefs, chronicling the rise of Vladimir Putin.

Baker is author of Days of Fire: Bush and Cheney in the White House; The Breach: Inside the Impeachment and Trial of William Jefferson Clinton; and co-author, with Glasser, of Kremlin Rising: Vladimir Putin’s Russia and the End of Revolution. He has won the Gerald R. Ford Prize for Distinguished Coverage of the Presidency, the Aldo Beckman Memorial Award, and the Merriman Smith Memorial Award for Excellence in Presidential News Coverage.
