In his new book, Hell: My Life in the Squirrel Nut Zippers, Tom Maxwell recounts the journey he and the band took from jam buddies, through major success, to his decision to leave the band in 1999. The stories behind some of their favorite tunes, like “Put a Lid On It”, are included here along with an intimate look at what rapid fame meant to the group. Since his departure, Maxwell has written for many publications including The Oxford American, Our State and Southern Cultures and is back to music with a new album, Tom Maxwell and the Minor Drag.
