Set on the North Carolina coast near the end of the American Revolution, Katy Simpson Smith’s
debut novel, The Story of Land and Sea, explores bonds of blood, love, place, and circumstance.

Smith teaches at Tulane University and holds a PhD in history from the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill and an MFA from the Bennington Writing Seminars.
