Spring Awakening opens April 4th!
This highly successful Tony-award-winning Broadway show has an alternative pop musical score written by singer-songwriter Duncan Sheik, with book and lyrics by Steven Sater. The musical is based on one of literature’s most controversial masterpieces by German playwright, Frank Wedekind. The original play, of the same name, was banned from the stage for nearly 100 years.
The musical, Spring Awakening, depicts themes of teenage self discovery, sex, and violence as the adolescents grapple anxiously with their emerging adulthood and fumble their way into each other’s arms. To help convey the universal themes of these struggling youths, the musical plays with time. When the teens sing, they imagine themselves performing their angst as would-be rock’n’roll stars of their future, singing pop-rock tunes that convey their inner most thoughts and feelings.
Because of the themes and language used to depict these stories, this musical is recommended for mature audiences.
