The Unknown Pages of the History of Ballet
This exhibit was initiated through a collaboration between Bakhrushin Central State Theatre Museum in Moscow, Russia; the Museum of Russian Art in Jersey City, New Jersey; and the University of North Carolina Asheville; and Grabbe Inc. in New York, New York.
Feb. 12 – 18, Part I
The extraordinary exhibit highlights the life of Dame Sonia Arova and Oleg Briansky, legendary ballet dancers and choreographers of the second half of the 20th century, who made significant contributions to world culture.
The remarkable archives portray the history of ballet through rare images of the famous dancers Rudolf Nureyev, Dame Sonia Arova, Oleg Briansky, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Tamara Toumanova, George Balanchine, Nathalie Krassovska, Felia Doubrovska, Olga Spessivtseva, Serge Lifar, Margot Fonteyn, Erik Bruhn and others will be on view from February 12-18.
February 19-26, Part II
Features the work of UNCA Visiting Professor and costume designer, Igor Roussanoff, with displays of his theatrical sketches, production photographs and costumes for the theatre and ballet from his collaborations with Dame Sonia Arova, Thor Sutowski, Wes Chapman, Mark DeGarmo, Richard Helldobler and others.
The Enchanted Wanderersexhibit in UNCA's Ramsey Library is both free and open to the public.
