Wendy Welch Reading & Booksigning
28 Oct 2012
On Sunday, October 28, 3:00 pm at Malaprop's Bookstore & Cafe, Wendy Welch (who was recently interviewed on National Public Radio) will present and sign her book that tells an inspiring and true story about losing your place, finding your purpose, and building a community, one book at a time. In The Little Bookstore of Big Stone Gap: A Memoir of Friendship, Community, and the Uncommon Pleasure of a Good Book, Welch and her husband leave their high-octane jobs for a simpler life in an Appalachian coal town as bookstore owners. The only problems? A declining U.S. economy, a small town with no industry, and the advent of the e-book. Having no idea how to run a bookstore, against all odds -- but with optimism, the help of their Virginian mountain community, and an abiding love for books, they succeeded in establishing more than a thriving business. They built a community. This one's for lovers of independent bookstores everywhere!
The event is free and open to the public.
