WNC Native Plant Symposium

Join the NC Native Plant Society for a free native plant symposium on Feb. 20, 9-3, at the NC Arboretum that will focus on plant communities, habitat, our place in these mountains, rescues & wildflower hikes. Whether you are a budding native plant enthusiast or a expert rooted in specific species or plant communities there will be something for you at the symposium.

Presenters include:

Gary Walker, Appalachian State University professor, will speak on plant communities of cliff faces including Linville Gorge
Ed Schwartzman, NCDENR, Natural Heritage Program, presenting on the flora of Macon County including the Nantahala River eco-region
Tom Baugh, biologist & former editor of Rapid River Art Magazine, who will use narration & his published poetry to discuss the status of life on Earth & our human connection to other life
Alan Mizeras, Henderson County Master Gardener & Coordinator of Henderson County Native Plant Rescue Group, who will present on native plant rescues
Scott Dean, WNC Naturally, will share some of his favorite hikes in the Appalachians, including Great Smoky Mountains National Park
